Growing up, Ryan was surrounded by artists. His grandfather was a well known local painter, his father was an author, his uncles were musicians, and his brother became a filmmaker and photographer. He studied visual art, theater and filmmaking himself, before attending UCLA School of Law, where he was co-Editor-in-Chief of the Entertainment Law Review.

After graduating in 2002 and interning at Warner Bros. Pictures, he spent the next fifteen years at the Los Angeles law firm Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell, where he worked with some of the biggest entertainment and sports clients in the world on intellectual property issues in general and music, film and sports law in particular.

In 2019, Ryan and his family relocated to Bend, Oregon, where he later joined Aspect Law Group as its principal attorney. Through Aspect, Ryan works with artists and creative businesses throughout California and Oregon.

In addition to his work with Aspect, Ryan has served on the Board of the Oregon Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts since 2020, and is currently the President of the organization. He spends his free time as a father and husband, and following his beloved Dodgers.
